Everton have signed Ireland defender Jake O’Brien from Lyon for €20m.
Fabrizio Romano, a famous journalist, has stamped his HERE WE GO! stamp on Everton’s deal to sign Jake O’Brien, an Irish national team defender, from Olympique Lyonnais for 20 million euros, with the transfer set to become official this week.
Romano said: “Jake O’Brien will undergo his medical at Everton on Monday and will then sign a contract until June 2029. Confirmed HERE WE GO!”
The 23-year-old centre-back, who stands at 197cm, will move to Goodison Park for €20m, with the option to share 10% of the fee with Lyon for any future transfers.
O’Brien is a product of Cork City’s youth system who moved to Crystal Palace in 2021 but never made a senior appearance for Palace before moving to Lyon last season, http://ufabet999.app where he made 32 appearances and scored five goals.
Everton eventually fended off competition from Wolverhampton and Brentford to secure the services of O’Brien. The outlet adds that Nottingham Forest outbid the Toffees but the Ireland international rejected the opportunity to join the Trees. Everton are expected to confirm the signing of O’Brien in the coming days. Should Everton part ways with O’Brien in the future, Lyon would receive 10 % of the transfer fee.
On the international level, O’Brien has only made two senior appearances for Ireland.
O’Brien’s arrival would be a direct replacement for Ben Godfrey, who moved to Atalanta for £11m, while the future of in-demand centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is also uncertain.
